Bubble tea originated in Taiwan in the 1980's in a small tea stall.

Elementary school children will be hoping to buy a cup of refreshing tea after a long day of hard work and play. Tea stand erected in front of the school and will compete for business with the best selling tea. One concession owner became popular with the tea when she started adding different fruit flavoring to her tea. Because the taste is sweet and cool, the kids like the taste. Soon, other concessions heard about the tea "unique" and popular, so they started adding spices to their tea. When adding flavor, tea and spices should be shaken well for a good all around taste. This form bubbles in the drink, which became known as "Bubble Tea."

In 1983 Liu Han-Chieh introduced Taiwan to tapioca pearls. The new mode was to add tapioca pearls into a favorite beverage. Most of the time tapioca pearls served in cold infused tea. After tea and a sense of well-shaken, topped tapioca pearls that sit at the bottom of the cup is clear. Tapioca pearls also looked like bubbles, thus also to be known as "Bubble Tea." The bubbles float on your main beverage and down your drink.

Bubble tea is also known as Boba drink, pearl tea, iced tea Boba, Boba, Boba nai cha, zhen zhou nai cha, pearl milk tea, pearl ice tea, black pearl tea, tapioca ball drink, BBT, PT, pearl shake, QQ (which means chewy in Chinese) and many others as possible.

Bubble drinks are usually cool, refreshing, and sweet drinks with tapioca pearls sitting on the bottom of the cup is clear. Sometimes the drink is made with fresh fruit, milk and crushed ice to create a healthy milk shake. You also can find a drink made from the spice powder, creamer, water, and crushed ice. And if you want to be like the Asians do, cool drink usually includes a healthy tea, infused by herbs.
Tapioca pearls are black, but sometimes it can be found to be white or transparent. Depending on the material of pearls, the color varies. I've been told that the white and translucent pearls are made of caramel, starch and chamomile root extract. Black pearl includes sweet potato, cassava and sugar, which add color to black.

Consistency of the tapioca pearls are somewhere between thick-o and chewing gum. They are the size of a marble. They are also known as a drink "Boba" in the West because China is described as having a texture similar to the female breast.

Clear cup with black balls on the bottom can easily identify bubble Tea drinks. Other properties that clearly is a big fat straw. Fat straw is needed so that the tapioca pearls can be sucked up with drinks and food. Bubble Tea's appearance definitely makes it unique.
One thing is for sure. Bubble tea is not a fad. This trend. This drink is addictive. If you already have a good one before then you know what we're talking about.
